KAGYU THEKCHEN LING
Kagyu Thekchen Ling founded in 1987 by H.E. the Third Jamgon Kongtrul is both an Institute for Higher Buddhist Studies and a traditional Buddhist retreat centre. Among its activities is Rigpe Dorje Publications for preservation of Buddhist texts and commentaries.
Accepting the offer of a 4-acre site by the local Buddhist community in Lava, H.E. the Third Jamgon Kongtrul agreed to their request to establish a monastery on the site to support and preserve the tradition and culture of the community and people. The project was assigned to Paramita Charitable Trust and work commenced in April 1988. The community temple was opened on June 6, 1990 with 40 Buddhist aspirants. This was the beginning of the establishment of Kagyu Thekchen Ling.
As at end of May 2019, Kagyu Thekchen Ling had 135 students pursuing the 13-year monastic Acharya program in higher Buddhist philosophy, and 13 monks in the traditional 3-year Shangpa Kagyu Buddhist retreat which commenced in late 2017 and will conclude in early 2021.
